Emergency Management
The Town of Fenwick Island has the distinction of being located entirely in a flood plain. Because of this, we occasionally experience destruction from wind and water that would not normally affect those further inland.
In an effort to keep you as up-to-date as possible regarding possible weather impacts, the Administration Department along with the Fenwick Island Police Department have set up this special "Emergency Management" section.
We now feature special emergency notification. If you are interested in receiving this information, visit the Notify Me section to sign up for email and text message notifications.
National Flood Safety Awareness
NOAA's National Flood Safety Awareness Week is an important awareness campaign that can educate the public on the dangers of flooding and steps they can take to protect themselves. One way to ensure protection, at least financially, is through flood insurance. Most homeowners' insurance policies do not cover flood damage. To learn more about National Flood Safety Awareness Week, visit http://www.floodsafety.noaa.gov/
FEMA and other government organizations, including USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov, the official web portals of the U.S. government, offer additional ways to connect with great information to help you prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
Delaware Emergency Notification System
The Delaware Emergency Notification System (DENS) is a notification system dedicated to notifying Delaware residents in the event of an emergency in their area. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center, along with the Delaware Emergency Management Agency, encourages residents who exclusively use mobile telephones to register their numbers in a statewide database that will be used for the Delaware Emergency Notification System.
Additional information regarding this program is available on the Delaware Emergency Management Agency website at http://dema.delaware.gov/brochures/DENS_Flyer.pdf To register your mobile telephone, call 1-866-484-3264, or log on to https://alertregistration.com/dema/
